Description

  • The Corgi brand was created by the Mettoy Company of Northampton which first started to produce colourful, pressed metal toys in the 1930s. The name Corgi (after the Welsh dog) was chosen for three reasons: first, because it was short and catchy; secondly because the models were to be produced in Swansea and thirdly because of its strong association with the Royal Family. Although top prices grab the headlines, diecast scale model collecting is an easy hobby to start and many vehicles, both old and new, can be acquired for a few pounds.
  • Explore our Corgi die-cast model range of aviation history, from the basic wood framed fabric aircraft of the Great War, to the high-tech modern fighter planes in service today.
  • A little bit of history: The four squadrons making up the 345th BG ‘Air Apaches’ arrived in Port Moresby, New Guinea during the summer of 1943, routing from Australia, with crews intent on continuing the work started by the 38th BG ‘Sunsetters’ in using B-25 Mitchells as low flying, heavy hitting strafing gunships.
  • This distinctive aircraft named ‘Red Wrath’, was one of the hard-working strafing Mitchells of the 498th BS and made a name for itself whilst leading a raid against Japanese forces on the Island of Rabul in October 1943, one of the first such operations.
  • This die-cast model has a length of 23.3cm, a wingspan of 28.2cm and height of 5.5cm and comes in our olive drab colour.
